Let's face it: losing weight isn't easy. It takes a lot of discipline and time, not to mention a couple of sacrifices. Sometimes people end up gaining back all the weight they lost due to many reasons, which can result to the depression and helplessness of the person dieting. If you happen to be one of these people, then your problem is motivation. There are so many ways to convince you to keep going no matter how tough things are.
Positive affirmation is one such good idea. Write your own affirmation and keep on repeating it yourself wherever you go. Make sure that the affirmation you make for yourself is something that you will believe in and will remember as you go on with your diet. It might seem weird, but being able to tell yourself that you're going to succeed and believe in it is something that will make all the difference later on.
Speak to yourself positively. Should there be times that you weren't able to follow your diet (i.e. when you ate something you weren't supposed to simply out of temptation), make sure that you don't berate yourself. Beating yourself up won't do your confidence and your willingness to go on any good. Instead, reassure yourself that it's not that much of a setback and that you're going to be able to rise from the event. Focus on the good things you can do rather than the bad things you did.
Another way to self-motivate is through visuals. Maybe you can put up a poster or picture of someone who has a fit and trim body in a place where you can see it most of the time, especially when you're working out. It's a good way to visualize what your goals are. It further motivates your willingness to go at it because the goals seem more concrete to you. Sometimes you just need a good look at what you're going for, and using visuals is the way to go.
Lastly, reward yourself. Nothing says motivation more than a little positive reinforcement every now and then. Set milestones for your eating plan and try to find ways to reward yourself for reaching those milestones without straying from your diet. Get yourself a new CD or buy yourself some new clothes. Try to set aside a small fund to be used to purchase your reward when the time comes.
Of course, make sure that you don't treat yourself with food. Don't buy stuff that will make you fat or otherwise affect your diet. Or else it's going to defeat the purpose of your diet.
Don't underestimate the power of motivation. Sometimes, it's what makes or breaks diets, no matter how solid they seem to be.
